One of the people who allegedly participated in the violence of March 9, when the Central Electoral Bureau rejected the candidacy of Călin Georgescu, is a former deputy head of the ISU Ialomița, according to Digi24 sources. He is now a retired lieutenant colonel. The man allegedly hit several gendarmes and also vandalized a car belonging to the Digi trust.

The former deputy chief of the ISU Ialomița is accused of being among the main aggressors when the violence took place near the Central Electoral Office. He is a retired lieutenant colonel. At the moment, he retired in 2021, but investigators claim that he was directly involved in hitting the gendarmes and vandalizing the Digi24 car and other areas in the Old Center of the Capital.

The police searched his home and the homes of three other suspects. They were taken for questioning, but at the moment two of them are under house arrest, and the other two, including the military man in the reserve, are under judicial control.

This means that he must comply with a series of measures: Florin Georcovici is not allowed to contact other people involved in the case and is not allowed to leave Bucharest. In addition to these four defendants, investigators have also opened criminal cases against other violent protesters. In other investigations, dozens of people are targeted by the cases opened after the violence near the BEC headquarters. The violence on March 9 broke out in the evening, after the Central Electoral Bureau rejected the candidacy of independent Călin Georgescu in the presidential elections in May.

After the announcement of the rejection of Georgescu’s candidacy, the several hundred of his sympathizers who had gathered in the morning in front of the BEC headquarters in the Historic Center of the Capital clashed with the gendarmes. Their actions degenerated into violent protests that culminated in the burning of objects, the injury of gendarmes and the destruction of the Digi24 car and public property. The violent protesters, among whom were also football fans, tore up pieces of cobblestone and threw them at the gendarmes, as well as other plastic objects and eggs.
