#rezist protest meeting in Victoriei Square to counter the one organized by PSD
#rezist protesters, who become famous last year for staging the wide street protests prompted by the ruling Social Democrat Government’s intention to amend the justice laws in order to decriminalize certain graft offenses, have announced on Facebook that they would organize a protest in Victoriei Square pn Saturday, during 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., a rally that will overlap with the one held by the Social Democrat Party (PSD).
#rezist protesters say that PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea can find another location for the protest meeting.
„Let’s be CLEAR: There is a protest meeting notified by the #rezist protesters in Victoriei Square every day from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Therefore, the multiple criminally investigated, the convicted offender Liviu Dragnea has the right either to stage the protest meeting in Victoriei Square except from 6 to 11 p.m. or to find another location for his meeting, preferably in his county, Teleorman. So, there is a #rezist protest in Victoriei Square on Saturday, June 9, and any other manifestation in that area and during this time frame is illegal! WE WON’T GIVE UP, WE WON’T BACK DOWN, PERIOD”, reads the Facebook post of the #rezist followers.
However, later on the Gendarmerie announced that the #rezist meeting is not authorized by the Bucharest City Hall.
PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea announced early this week that the party will stage a rally against the abuse in the judiciary system in Victoriei Square on Saturday, June 9, at 8 p.m, arguing “there are an underground power that is infesting important decisions”. The Social Democrats claim the rally will be attended by over 30,000 people.
President Klaus Iohannis has retorted on Tuesday, saying that the protest meeting to be staged by the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) seems to him „a ridiculous, purely populist approach”, as the protest concept is normally associated to the opposition or to the civil society discontent with the ruling in a democracy.
