Romania, 6th worldwide in terms of antibiotics consumption per thousand inhabitants
Romania ranked 6th worldwide in 2015 in terms of rate of antibiotics consumption, a survey conducted by the US science academy, quoted by Le Figaro and hotnews.ro informs.
The world antibiotics consumption has increased by 65% during 2000-2015, a trend considered as concerning by the scientists, given that the bacteria develops resistance against such drugs. The World Health Organisation has confirmed that the resistance to antibiotics is one of the most serious threats against world health.
Thus, the consumption increased during the mentioned interval from 21.1 billion daily doses to 34.8 billion daily doses, according to figures collected in 76 countries.
The rate of antibiotics consumption per 1,000 inhabitants has increased in the countries with small and average incomes (+77%), as in the case of Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria and Romania. Previously, in 2000, the first five places in the rankings were taken by countries with large incomes.
Top six rankings: Turkey, Tunisia, Spain, Greece, Algeria, Romania.
