Romania Hosts First AccessABILITY Expo

The Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce (RDCC) has announced the first edition of AccessABILITY Expo, taking place from September 27th to 29th at the National Library of Romania, in Bucharest. This event is set to bring together the disability community, caregivers, professionals, and innovatinsluors under one roof to explore resources, share innovations, and foster a more inclusive society. The event is free and open to the public.

“AccessABILITY Expo is an initiative aimed at challenging societal norms and empowering individuals with disabilities,” said Lestat Monroe, the founder of the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce. “We aim to connect people with disabilities, their caregivers, and professionals in the space with the resources they need to enhance their quality of life. Our event highlights Romania’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all.”

Over the course of three days, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with 20 inspirational speakers, explore up to 50 exhibitor stands, and participate in interactive workshops designed specifically for people with disabilities. From cutting-edge technology to urban planning and accessible healthcare solutions, the event will cover a wide array of topics relevant to the disability community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in interactive exhibits, participate in panel discussions, and join networking sessions.

Key features of AccessABILITY Expo include:

  • Romanian Accessibility Awareness Day Conference: Fostering discussions, ideas and knowledge exchange about workplace accessibility and inclusion for almost 1 million people with visible and invisible disabilities in Romania.
  • Inspirational talks and workshops: A unique series of events bringing together thought leaders, advocates, and professionals to tackle workplace accessibility and inclusion, driving change through experiential learning.
  • Basketball wheelchair court: A fast-paced sport that requires strength, endurance, and quick thinking for people living with disabilities and for people with all abilities to try.
  • ED&I jobs corner: A dedicated area where employers can connect with job seekers with disabilities.
  • E-Gaming: An interactive space showcasing the latest in accessible gaming technology.
  • Wellbeing Convention: Sessions focused on mental and physical health tailored for individuals with disabilities.
  • TEDx Băneasa Limitless: Opportunities to learn from experts and thought leaders in the field of disability inclusion talks and masterclasses.
  • ALT Portraits / Alternative Portraits exhibition: A unique space where art intersects with accessibility, aiming to reshape perspectives on diversity and inclusion.

Family-friendly activities will be available, ensuring that attendees of all ages and abilities can fully participate and enjoy the event. The venue will be fully accessible, with additional wheelchair-accessible parking and alternative formats for all materials, such as large print and Braille.
