An orange code for heat was issued today for Bihor, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti and Dolj counties, while a yellow code warning for heat was issued for the rest of the country.
Bihor, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti and Dolj, temperatures will be up to 38-39 Celsius degrees on Sunday and Monday, while the thermic unease will be high.
In the rest of the country, temperatures will be high, too, with frequently exceeding 35-36 Celsius degrees and will locally mount to 37-38 degrees. The temperarure-moisture index will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units in most of the country’s regions.
The extreme heat also prompted strong rain storms especially in western, central and northern Romania. Nowcasting alerts for storms have been issued on Sunday in Timis, Sibiu, Brasov, Covasna, Harghita, Cluj, Suceava.
In Radauti, Suceava the roof of a high school boarding house has been torn by a rain storm and dragged about 100 meters over other two buildings of the high school, over DN 2H national road and over several trees. The roof smashed into a block of flats. The chief of the Emergency Inspectorate in Radauti said the town is exposed to the tornado phenomena, as similar ones ocurred in 2009 and 2011.
