Romania scoops gold medal, two honorable mentions at International Linguistics Olympiad in China
The Romanian students won a gold medal and two honorable mentions at the 22nd edition of the International Linguistics Olympiad held in Beijing, China July 21-25.
According to a release the Ministry of National Education, the gold medal went to Dan Mircea Mirea (of the ‘Fratii Buzesti’ National College in Craiova), and the honorable mentions were awarded to Iulia Marinescu (‘Unirea’ National College in Turnu Magurele, Teleorman county) and Vlad Neacsu (Bucharest-based International Informatics High School).
All Romanian students attending this competition are 11th graders. At the previous edition held in Manchester, Romania won one bronze medal and two honorable mentions, on its first official participation in this contest. Competing in this year’s edition of the International Linguistics Olympiad, one of the 12 International Science Olympiads, were 39 teams from 28 countries from all over the world.
