Russia launched a new series of drone attacks on civilian targets and port infrastructure in Ukraine, in the vicinity of the river border with Romania, on the Chilia arm of the Danube, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported on Friday morning.

Romania raised four combat aircraft to oversee the situation. “To monitor the situation, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force took off from the 86 Borcea Air Base starting at 1:52 a.m. and, later, starting at 3:22 a.m., two more F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air Force from the Police combat service Extended Air, from the 57 Air Base from Mihail Kogălniceanu. All four combat aircraft landed at the airbase around 4:00 a.m.,” MApN said.
“As a result of the detection of groups of drones that were approaching the airspace of Ukraine, near the airspace of Romania, the National Military Command Center (nucleus) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the establishment of measures to alert the population of the county Tulcea, with RO-Alert messages being sent at 2:01 a.m.,” MApN also mentioned in a press release.

“During this time interval, Romania’s radar surveillance system indicated the possibility that one of the drones involved in the attack on Ukrainian targets may have crossed the national airspace, around 03:00, for a very short period of less than three minutes, in the border area with Ukraine”, MApN also stated.
From the data available at this moment, the existence of an impact zone on the national territory has not been reported. The forces of the Ministry of National Defense are carrying out, starting this morning, searches in the area with aerial means and with ground teams.
The Ministry of National Defense sends a firm message of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against some objectives and elements of Ukrainian civil infrastructure, which are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the norms of international law.
