Romania, the highest death rate in road accidents in the EU. 24 victims during the past weekend
The past weekend has been one of the bloodiest on the roads in Romania this year – no less than 24 people lost their lives in road accidents.
The Minister of Interior, Lucian Bode, explains that among the main causes of accidents there are: the indiscipline of pedestrians, speed, the indiscipline of cyclists, not giving priority to pedestrians and not giving priority to pedestrians.
Bode reminded that Romania had the highest death rate in road accidents in the European Union in 2019. He said that, referring to 2019, the number of serious accidents decreased in the first 6 months of this year.
“This weekend, after the tragedy in Sibiu, Bacău, Bihor and now Olt, if we look at a statistic, unfortunately, Romania is in the top of the European ranking in the number of people who died in road accidents. But referring to 2019, because 2020 was an atypical year, we had 8,125 seriously injured. If we refer to the 1st semester of 2021 – 1,667, so for six months, the number of serious accidents and deaths and serious injuries decreased compared to 2019, compared to the six months of 2021 “, said Bode.
