Romanian MoD Scrambles Two F-16 Jets Following Tulcea Air Alert
The northern area of Tulcea county was again under air alert, after groups of drones were detected heading towards the airspace of Ukraine, near the airspace of Romania, on Sunday evening. Two F-16 aircraft were lifted from the ground, MApN announces.
“The armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a new series of drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania. As a result of the detection over the Black Sea of groups of drones heading towards the airspace of Ukraine, near the airspace of Romania, the National Military Command Center (nucleus) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, at 11:34 p.m. , regarding the establishment of the air alert in the northern area of Tulcea county. To monitor the situation in the airspace, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, in the combat service of the Air Police, took off from the 86th Borcea Air Base”, stated the Ministry of Defense, in a statement.
According to MApN, the air alert ended around 00:45 and the F-16 aircraft returned to the base airfield. Romania’s radar surveillance system, which permanently monitored the situation generated by these attacks, did not detect the penetration of some air vehicles involved in the attack on Ukrainian targets into the national airspace.
Starting from Monday morning, according to the procedures established for these situations, the MApN forces will carry out investigations in the areas of the national territory located near the objectives illegally attacked by the Russian forces, in order to detect possible situations of impact of some aerial vehicles or their remains.
The Ministry of National Defense reiterates the firm message of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against some objectives and elements of Ukrainian civil infrastructure, which are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the norms of international law.
