Romanians – first among newly arrived EU immigrants in Belgium
Last year another 15,002 Romanian immigrants were officially registered in Belgium, Romania is in 2015 on the first place among the countries of origin of EU immigrants newly arrived on Belgian territory, the Belgian Federal Centre for Migration has announced on Tuesday.
France is a next, at short distance after Romania, with 14,556 new French immigrants registered last year by the Belgian authorities.
On the other hand, in 2015 in Belgium were registered 38,990 asylum applications, a significant increase against the previous year, when the number was 14,130.
Belgium has a population of about 11.2 million, of which approximately 11% are immigrants and 68% of total immigrants come from a European Union member country.
