A study by Education First, an international education company providing study abroad programs, language courses, cultural exchanges, and educational programs, reveals that Romanians are among the world’s top English speakers. Specifically, the study, known as the Proficiency Index, ranks Romania 15th out of 113 countries included in the analysis.

This study, the Proficiency Index, sources data from a test called the EF Standard English Test, the first free standardized English language test used by companies, universities, government organizations worldwide, as well as students in schools,” said Andrei Henegar, representative of EF Romania, in an interview with wall-street.ro.

He also noted that the study has been conducted since 2011, and Romania has been included since 2014, providing a certain relevance to the information regarding our country.

In comparison, Russians rank 41st in this test, while countries such as Slovakia (18th), Spain (35th), or South Korea (49th) fall below Romania in this regard.

At the opposite pole, however, countries such as Poland (13th place), Austria (3rd place) and Singapore (2nd place) proved better skills in using the English language than Romanians.

TThere are similarities with famous tests such as Toefl and Cambridge from the point of view of testing, both of which are standardized tests, but this test lasts a maximum of 50 minutes, both for listening, pronunciation and writing.

On the age segment, the best Romanian English speakers is between 31 and 40 years old, while the people of Bucharest are the best at using the English language.

Also, regarding regions, Romanians who live in the northwest of the country (Transylvania) are the best English speakers when it comes to regions.
