Romanians spending almost double than Hungarians on online food ordering

Romanians are paying up to 90 % more on online food ordering than Hungarians this year, after in 2015 they were spending about 50 percent more than their western neighbors.

According to foodpanda.ro, the value of the oline order is also 35% higher than the one registered in Bulgaria.

The average value of the order on foodpanda.ro is currently EUR 15.5 in Romania. Bulgarians’ average is EUR 11.7, while Hungarians pay EUR 8.1 for online food.

However, Romanians and Hungarians have the same gastronomic preferences, with pizza and burgers topping the online food orders both in Romania and Hungary, while Bulgarians are more keen to traditional and Asian cuisine.

Romanians are more like their southern neighbours when it comes to the hours when they order for the food, meaning they prefer to order about 15 minutes before lunch or dinner. Hungarians’ golden minute is 14:55.

„If last year, <the golden minute> was reported before lunch, in the past months, due to the winter holidays and to the desire of eating something else than the traditional dishes cooked at home, most of the Romanians ordered on foodpanda in the evening at home,” said Radu Bălăceanu, Foodpanda Romania country manager.

Foodpanda.ro is the biggest online takeaway food ordering marketplace in Romania, which collaborates with over 500 restaurants in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, Brașov, Constanța, Arad, Ploiești, Oradea, Galați, Craiova, Sibiu and Buzau.
