In 2018, the number of newcomers who have settled in Germany was by 400,000 higher than those who left the Federal Republic. According to the Federal Statistical Office, in 2018 some 1,585,000 newcomers came from abroad, while 1,185,000 people have left Germany. The net figure of the remaining ones was slightly lower than that of 2017 (416,000).
The largest net inflow was recorded by the foreign citizens from the EU: 202,000, down against 239,000 in 2017. On the second position are Asians: 118,000 compared to 140,000 in 2017. Europeans outside the EU: 85,000 against 60,000 in 2017. On the last position are Africans: 34,000 compared to 35,000 in 2017.
Most EU citizens coming to Germany in net figures are Romanians (68,000), followed by Croats (29,000) and Bulgarians (27,000), ziare.com informs, quoting Statistisches Bundesamt.
