Romsilva: The volume of illegal logging from the state forest fund, down by 25pc in H1

The volume of illegal logging from the state forest fund, administered by the National Forest Administration – Romsilva, registered a decrease of 25.75% in the first half of the year, as compared to the similar period last year, according to a press release issued by the institution on Tuesday.

Thus, in the first six months of this year, 19,450 cubic meters were illegally cut from the state forests administered by Romsilva, against 26,193 cubic meters illegally cut in the first half of last year. The value of the damages caused by illegal logging and by abusive grazing amounted to RON 4.97 million in H1.

In the first six months of the year, Romsilva employees carried out 45,806 control actions on the transport of wood, out of which 9,827 were carried out together with the Romanian Police, 539 forestry offences being found and 9,908 cubic meters of timber were seized. As a result of the inspections, 6,971 fines for offenses were applied, amounting to RON 15,057,100.

Also 157 inspections were carried out at the debit installations, of which 102 together with the Police, 45 forestry contraventions being found, with a total value of RON 345,500, whereas 3,982 cubic meters of wood were confiscated.
