The Romanian Royal Family has sued the Romanian state asking for compensations of over RON 1 million for not being able to exploit the forests it owns on the Savarsin domain (photo) in Arad county. An active lawsuit is opened against the state, and is judged at the Oradea Court of Appeal. The first hearing is on May 2.

The lawsuit was opened by King Michael and is now carried on by his daughters, princesses Margareta, Elena, Sofia and Maria.

The members of the Royal House are asking to be financially compensated in exchange for the timber it cannot exploit on those almost 1,300 hectares of forest on the Savarsin domain.

It is not the only area where the Royal House cannot exploit the forest it owns in Romania, with similar areas being found in Brasov and Prahova counties.

The Romanian state grants compensations in these situations, based on a Government resolution adopted in June last year.
