Royal House says no offer for Elisabeta Palace rental received from RA-APPS

The Royal House of Romania has informed on Friday it received no offer from RA-APPS for the rental of Elisabeta Palace after February 5, 2018 and that the Crown Custodian will act according to the legal framework.
The Press Office of Her Majesty the Crown Custodian informs that no discussion have been initiated on the issue.
“Her Majesty expresses hope that the partnership with the state institutions will continue, so that the activities of the Royal Family to support the fundamental interests of Romania will go on in the future, as it happened during the past 20 years,” the Royal House said.
According to La 406/2001, after King Michael’s demise, the Crown Custodian has 60 days available to free Elisabeta Palace, i.e. February 5, 2018.
The Government has issued on Wednesday a negative opinion on the legislative proposal on regulating the legal status of the Royal House.
PM Mihai Tudose said on Wednesday for a TV private broadcaster that the Government has received an ‘odd’ request for the rental of Elisabeta Palace. “We have received a request for rental (…) rather odd, that they are willing to pay any rent, but with a grace period of one year (…) one year without paying rent. If during this year a new law will be enforced to let them live there for free, the rental contract is off. If not, they can say at anytime they give up the contract. Meaning that they live there for free and we’ll see what is next. It does not work like that,” the Premier said.
Elisabeta Palace, built in 1936, was owned by Princess Elisabeta of Greece (sister of King Carol II) until being nationalised in 1948.
Currently, the palace is owned by the State and is managed by the Autonomous Administration for State Protocol Patrimony (RA-APPS).
After the final return to Romania of the Royal Family in 1997, Elisabeta Palace was used as the only official residence and home of the Royal Family in Bucharest.
The Royal Secretariat works at Elisabeth Palace, where other administrative activities of the Royal House are taking place.
