Sanitas trade union announces strike in hospitals on October 31

Sanitas trade union Federation has announced on Thursday that on October 31 will organise a general strike. The decision comes following the talks between the trade union and the Ministers of Labour and Minister of Health, talks that haven’t reached an agreement regarding the technical and administrative staff’s wages in hospitals, Sanitas leader Leonard Bărăscu has announced.

“We’ve invited the two ministers, of labour and health, we’ve submitted the Sanitas demands and the dissatisfactions coming from all over the country. Unfortunately, it was mostly a technical discussion, they haven’t handed actual data. No solution is in sight for the demands, consequently the Sanitas National Council has decided to stage protests to support our demands,” Marius Sepi, Sanitas trade union Vice-president said.

Sanitas will picket the Labour Ministry on September 20 with some 200 people, then on September 27 they will picket the Finance Ministry, on October 4 the Health Ministry and on October 11 the parliament. On October 19 Sanitas will stage a two-hour warning strike and on October 31 will have general strike.

Health Minister Vlad Voiculescu said after the talks that further negotiations will take place with the trade unionists.

Labour Minister Dragos Paslaru said he would try to solve the financial issues, however this is possible only according to the resources.
