Schools closed in Bucharest on Monday and Tuesday due to the cold warning, snowfalls. Minus 15C by day and minus 20C at night
Bucharest mayoress Gabriela Firea has announced on Sunday after the winter command meeting that schools in the Capital will be closed on Monday and Tuesday due to the severe cold alert announced.
“We decided, together with the ANM director, with the Capital prefect and the school inspector, to close down schools in Bucharest on Monday and Tuesday. The decision might be extended. It will be strong wind, freezing cold and temporary abundant snowfalls,” Firea said.
The mayoress told potential contesters of this decision that she would rather be cautious than to count victims.
“I prefer to always come with prevention actions. I prefer they say we were a little bit more alerted than counting victims,” she added.
In his turn, the Bucharest school inspector Florin Lixandru said that, considering the code orange and code yellow alerts, the inspectorate decided to suspend classes in the Capital in all pre-school, elementary and high school units, as well as in universities, “at least in the public ones, as the decision in the private schools is up to the management,” the inspector explained.
