Romania Can Send Citizen to Space with SpaceX in Six Months, ANCOM chief claims

“Romania can send a Romanian into space with SpaceX in less than six months, after 50 years, if we make this decision at the national level,” stated Pavel Popescu, Vice President of the National Authority for Communications Regulation (ANCOM), on Monday at the opening of the largest technology and innovation festival in Central and Eastern Europe, Bucharest Tech Week.

“Two weeks ago, the director of Space Humanflights from SpaceX, Michael Altehofen, spent two hours in a “call” with us, telling us that in less than six months, if we make this decision at the national level, Romania can send with SpaceX a Romanian in space, after 50 years. Today, ANCOM is an institution that, through a project carried out also with SpaceX, through a collaboration project, has put Romania on the world map as the only country in the world that has such a partnership with such a company. A partnership that will lead to some results and some major changes in everything that means communications policy in space, on a global level. I am telling you these things because I am 100% certain that no one here, in the Romanian private sector, has thought of this. These things are not really known”, stated Popescu.

This year’s edition of Bucharest Tech Week started, on Monday, in the Capital, and for six days five specialized conferences on significant industries in the tech area will be organized. The technology week will end with the largest exhibition of technology and innovation in the region, accessible free of charge to the general public. Tech Expo will take place on the weekend of June 14-16, at Romexpo Pavilion B1. The organizer of Bucharest Tech Week is Universum Expo.
