Scorching heat lingers in Romania

The counties in the west, south and south-east of the country are under a Yellow Code warning of heatwave and high thermal discomfort on Thursday, according to the National Meteorological Administration.

On Thursday, the heat wave will extend to the west, south and southeast of the country, where there will be heatwave, high thermal discomfort, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperatures will generally be between 33 and 37 degrees, and the minimum between 18 and 25 degrees.

Also, on Friday, the heat wave will spread across the country and it will be hot in all plain and plateau areas. Thermal discomfort will be high and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures will generally be between 33 and 37 degrees, and minimum temperatures will be between 17 and 20 degrees. Meteorologists have also issued a heatwave code orange for Friday.

The heatwave will intensify in Crișana and Banat where maximum temperatures of 37…39 degrees will be recorded, as well as in the southern half of Oltenia and Muntenia where there will be maximum temperatures of 39…41 degrees. Thermal discomfort will be accentuated, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Minimum temperatures will be between 19 and 25 degrees. Throughout Saturday, the thermal discomfort will remain high in all plain areas and it will still be hot locally in the southern regions.
