Sebastian Ghiță turns out to police in Belgrade
Released on bail last week by the Serbian justice, Sebastian Ghita turned out to the Police precinct downtown Belgrade on Thursday, according to his release conditions on judicial control.
Sebastian Ghita could be summoned for videoconference next week, upon the request of Romanian courts, where he is prosecuted in three files.
He observed the conditions set and turned out at e police precincts for foreign citizens. He was present there for only a few minutes, digi24.ro informs.
Ghita is to turn out again to the Serbian police on June 15, between 9.00h and 15.00h.
Former deputy Sebastian Ghiţă, arrested in Serbia in April after being caught presenting false documents, was released by the Serbian authorities from prison last Friday after paying a bail of EUR 200,000.
He is placed under judicial control and is not allowed to leave Belgrade. He is to come to the police offices twice a month. His passport has been seized by police.
After fleeing, two short-term arrest warrants have been issued by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) and by the Ploiesti Court of Appeal on Ghita’s name.
The former deputy is currently in Serbia, where the Romanian authorities are trying to get him extradited.
The Romanian authorities sent, to the Serbian authorities, documents of 475 pages related to Ghita’s case on April 27. The documents have been translated and registered at the Serbian Justice Ministry.
Sebastian Ghita was arrested in Belgrade on the night of April 13 to April 14. He was accompanied by his brother when he has been caught. Ghita presented false ID papers, pretending he is Slovenian.
