Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu is investigated in a new file, under the charge of forgery, media reported on Tuesday. It’s a case registered at the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) but it was redirected to the General Prosecutor’s Office.

Tariceanu has been reported that he would have forgotten to fill in the wealth statement a holiday in Turkey, received as a gift.

The law says that any gift worth more than EUR 500 must be declared.

Judicial sources told mass media that the case had been opened following a complaint filed at the end of last year by a Romanian-born doctor living in Germany, Vladimir Atanasie Marinescu. The physician claims that Tariceanu, as former Liberal deputy, would have forged his wealth statement in 2011, skipping to declare a holiday in Turkey made in 2010, which had been paid by former ASF head Daniel Tudor and his wife, Doina Tudor, former senator. The vacation also included a cruise on a luxury yacht.

Doctor Marinescu claims he would have been a family friend of the Tudor family and that’s why he knows this information about Tariceanu.

In retort, the Senate Speaker says that he is happy to live in the country of the files.

I am happy to live in this country, which is turning into the country of criminal charges and files,” Tariceanu stated.

Asked if he has been announced about this file, he replied: “I haven’t been announced and I don’t have any further comment.”
