Almost 2,500 people participated on Saturday in the “March of Normality” and “Bucharest Pride Parade”. In the first part of the day there was a march lobbying for the traditional family, while after that there was the LGBT community’s parade, advocating for more rights.

Wearing a mask was mandatory, but not everyone followed this rule.

As the number of 500 people authorized by the Capital City Hall was exceeded, the organizer of the “Bucharest Pride” march, the director of the ACCEPT association, received a fine of  RON 7,000. She announced on Facebook that she will challenge the fine in court.

Firstly, the so-called “March of Normality” took place on the streets of the Capital. 400 priests, followers of the traditional family, and members of the New Right Party met in Victoriei Square.

“For the 16th year in a row, we call Romanians on the streets for the values of normality, naturalness, family and against gay partnerships, marriages, adoptions,” said Tudor Ionescu, organizer of the “March of Normality.”

In the second part of the day, it was the turn of the members of the LGBT community to march on the streets of the Capital. The Bucharest Pride march took place on Saturday afternoon on Calea Victoriei to University Square.

Although they had obtained permission from the City Hall for 500 people due to the pandemic restrictions, in reality almost 2,000 people participated. But most wore protective masks. The march went smoothly, with no incidents.

The organizer of Bucharest Pride, Teodora Ion-Rotaru, executive director of the ACCEPT organization, was fined by RON 7,000 for exceeding the number of 500 participants.

“We will challenge this fine in court and we are confident that we will find justice before the constitutional judges. Today the Gendarmerie did its duty, protected the participants in the march and it was normal to fine us. In court, we will criticize the measures adopted by the Government, not only the contravention sanction applied justified by the Gendarmerie “, Teodora Ion-Rotaru said on Facebook.

Not sure why the fine gets challenged in court. The amount was well known in advance for not respecting the agreement with the city hall and it was not the end of the world financially.
This is why the organizers were irresponsible regarding public health and the Covid measures, basically they just did not care too much about the rest of us vs their own objectives and showed up in numbers that by far exceeded the allowed 500.
A bit sad given that one should not be egoistic…
The police was also afraid of any typical minority backslash so vs other events where they usually intervene in force in order to make sure the legal framework is obeyed…here they just watched from the sides.
I did not know we had selective laws and that during a pandemic the virus chooses where it is and where it not. Seems it uses a double standard..
Respect everyone and you shall be respect in return. Be an example for the rest of us and not the opposite.
