Code orange and yellow for torrential rain and blizzard, Bucharest also affected

Meteorologists issued new bad weather alerts on Tuesday. Until Wednesday evening, a heavy rain Code Orange will be in effect in 4 counties. Bucharest is under a Yellow Rain Code warning.

An update of ANM, valid for the interval Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – Thursday 10:00 a.m., announces quantitatively moderate precipitation, at first in the west, center and south of the territory, then also in the other areas, and from the night of Wednesday to Thursday, their area will be in narrowing to the eastern and southeastern regions. Water quantities of 15…25 l/m2 and in some places more than 30 l/m2 will accumulate locally.

There will be rains in the low relief areas, mixed falls in the Western Carpathians, eastern Transylvania and Moldova and predominantly snow in the rest of the mountain area, where a layer of snow will be deposited. There will be isolated dust deposits. Locally and temporarily the wind will intensify, with speeds generally of 45…55 km/h.

Code Yellow for Rain

From Tuesday 16:00 until Wednesday 22:00 a Yellow Code is in force. In the north of Oltenia, locally in Muntenia, as well as in the southwest of Moldova, it will rain quantitatively. The quantities of water, through accumulation throughout the interval, will exceed 25…30 l/sq m and on restricted areas 40…50 l/sq m. In the Southern Carpathians and in the south of the Eastern Carpathians, at altitudes generally above 1000 m, it will snow quantitatively and a layer of snow will be deposited. The wind will intensify in the high area, especially during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, with gusts of over 70…90 km/h, blowing the snow and reducing visibility.

Code Orange for Rain

Also from Tuesday, but from 18.00, an Orange Code will be in force until Wednesday at 22.00. In the counties of Prahova, Buzău, Vrancea and in the mountainous area of ​​Dâmbovița county, there will be abundant precipitation, and through accumulation, throughout the interval, amounts of precipitation will generally be over 50…60 l/m². Precipitation will be in the form of rain in the low relief areas and snow at altitudes generally above 1000 m, where a consistent layer of snow will be deposited locally.

The orange code targets the counties of Vrancea, Buzău, Prahova and Dâmbovița, while the yellow one covers Bucharest and the counties of Caraș-Severin, Mehedinți, Gorj, Hunedoara, Alba, Sibiu, Vâlcea, Argeș, Brașov, Covasna, Bacău and Ilfov.

 

Weather forecast in Bucharest
The sky will be cloudy in Bucharest and it will mostly rain from Tuesday to Thursday. Maximum temperatures will range from 7C to 11C and the lows will be around 2C…5C. The wind will be moderate, with temporary strong gusts of around 45kmph.
