General Prosecutor’s Office gives up lawsuit on ordinance 13 amending criminal codes

A councilor of the General Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday announced that the institution is giving up lawsuit asking for the repealing of the emergency ordinance no 13 on amending the criminal codes, and also gave up notifying the Constitutional Court.

The Prosecutor’s Office action comes after the Government had repealed the controversial ordinance.

Romanian Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar notified the Bucharest Court of Appeal on Friday asking for the repealing of the ordinance amending the criminal codes and for the notification of the Constitutional Court.

The Prosecutor’s Office upon the Supreme Court argued that the emergency ordinance procedure in this case is seriously disrupting the activity of the Public Ministry and is obstructing the judiciary act, considering that people who have committed criminal offenses will be guarded through the new regulation.
