Greece-based Hellas Direct, the tech-driven insurance company active in Romania since 2022, announces the local launch of its Safe Roads project. The initiative aims to enhance road safety for students by restoring pedestrian crossings near schools, always in collaboration with local authorities. The Safe Roads project’s goal is to showcase how true protection starts long before an accident ever occurs. It starts with prevention.

Starting point: Brasov

Following the successful implementation of the initiative in Greece – where more than 100,000 students were protected by the restoration of over 800 school crossings, with support from local authorities, educators, and parents – Hellas Direct is now expanding the Safe Roads project to Romania.

The project began in Brașov and will be gradually rolled out in several other cities, in close collaboration with local authorities. The first crosswalk was restored outside Middle School Nr. 12, Building B, located on Strada Școlii 6A – an area with heavy daily foot traffic from students and local residents. Now, with upgraded crosswalk markings, anti-slip red carpet, road signage, and resonating lines, the area visibly and truly protects the 781 students of the school but also all users of the road: residents, parents, teachers.

“Brașov has been a leading city in adopting solutions that improve safety on public roads. From smart traffic lights and video surveillance to pedestrian crossings with enhanced markings and lighting, and a dedicated Traffic Monitoring and Control Center – these are just some of the measures we’ve put in place. The Safe Roads project is a welcome addition to our ongoing efforts, especially as it focuses on a critical area: pedestrian crossings near schools. I’m grateful to our partners at Hellas Direct for choosing Brașov for this initiative. Together, we’re making our city safer and more welcoming for people.” said George Scripcaru, Mayor of Brașov.

The Safe Roads project vision

Hellas Direct believes in giving real solutions to real everyday problems. As people share their worry about road safety, especially concerning children and young students, the Safe Roads project strives to give practical answers to a well-felt anxiety.

Caring for safety, beyond insurance, Hellas Direct is determined to actively participate in the community and make a difference where it matters most. The insurance company acknowledges that everyone’s safety depends on collective effort and is committed to create a positive impact in every country where it is present. Hellas Direct wants safety, not only for its customers, but for all. Thus, it launched its Safe Roads project in Romania.

“This isn’t just a campaign – it’s a commitment,” said Alexis Pantazis, co-founder and executive director at Hellas Direct. “We’re here for good and to make a real difference: Make people’s lives better through insurance and protect the future”.

“We’ve been active in Romania for the past 2.5 years , and we’re here to stay. Insurance is our business, but safety is our core purpose. We don’t believe in waiting for things to go wrong – we believe in helping prevent them”, added Emilios Markou, co-founder and executive director at Hellas Direct.
