The miners with the uranium exploitation in Crucea have suspended on Wednesday evening the protests they had started on Monday, after receiving assurances that the legislative framework was amended to solve their problems, they were to return to work Thursday morning.

“We were told that the legal framework has been amended and it will be published in the Official Monitor on Thursday,” said one of the protesters, adding that they were promised a new director will be appointed soon and they will resume normal activities.

Following this announcement, the miners decided to suspend protests and return to work Thursday morning.

Miners were promised to cash RON 300 more per month until June, when amendments will be possible in regard to their salaries and wage increases will be possible according to the protocol signed on January 30 with Energy Minister Andrei Gerea.

The Director General of the National Uranium Company Ion Moraru resigned on Tuesday after a meeting with Energy Minister Andrei Gerea. Moraru claimed his resignation is not related to the discussions with the Minister and neither to the protests the miners are holding at Crucea mine. “The reasons are personal and unilateral,” said Moraru.

About two hundred miners with the uranium exploitation in Crucea were self-trapped underground since Monday and were threatening to go on a hunger strike if their claims are not met.
