One engine driver dead, another one injured in railway collision
Two railway engines collided on an industrial railway station in Bârsești, Gorj county on Tuesday. One of the engine drivers died following collisions, while the other one was injured. Bârsești is part of Târgu Jiu town.
Investigators say that an engine collided with another parked vehicle.
“The engine drivers wanted to line up the two engines to the garniture and they collided. There was one person in each engine. One of them died following injuries and the other one is wounded,” said Mihai Avramescu, the spokesperson of the Gorj Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
Police officers are probing into the circumstances of the accident and started the criminal prosecution for manslaughter and culpable body damage.
“It’s a garniture of 20 wagons with a parked engine, while another vehicle was trying to connect with the engine. We don’t know how one engine came at very high speed and collided with the other one that was parked. A 49-year-old man died, while another 53-year-old man was injured. The two are employees of the CFR Marfa. Only freight trains are circulating on this railway,” said the Gorj Police spokesperson Andrei Lazar.
