Romania Hit by Longest Heatwave on Record

The National Meteorological Administration has issued a new yellow heat wave alert. ANM announces record temperatures in almost the entire country. Starting from Monday, July 8, 2024, specialists warn that the heat wave will expand and intensify in Crisana, Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, continental Dobrogea and the southern half of Moldova.

“The maximum temperatures will be 35…37 degrees, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will reach and locally will slightly exceed the critical threshold of 80 units”, stated the ANM representatives.

The heat wave will continue to expand and intensify in Crisana, Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, continental Dobrogea, locally in Moldova and Maramureș, as well as in southwestern Transylvania, where there will be heatwave and high thermal discomfort.

The maximum temperatures will be 35…37 degrees and locally 38…39 degrees in the southern regions, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units in extended areas.

Locally, the minimums will not drop below 20 degrees, characterizing a tropical night.
