Survey: A quarter of students in Romania work to support themselves
Roughly half of the students will be financially supported by their families in the academic year that starts this fall, according to a survey conducted by CEC Bank in partnership with the FinZoom.ro bank comparator.
The survey also found out that a quarter of students in Romania work to support themselves during their academic studies. Most of the students chose Polytechnic, business faculties and medical schools. The study also shows that 4 in 5 students chose a state faculty in Romania.
Approximately 43% of respondents say that they will support their children financially during their university studies, while over 30% say that they will only cover half of the expenses because the children benefit from the scholarship. On the other hand, 1 in 4 students (over 27%) will work during their studies, according to the answers given in the survey.
Among the fields where they chose to study, most of the students chose to study at the Polytechnic and in the economic field (about 22% in each of the two fields), the options being followed by medicine (about 17%), law (about 10 %) and foreign language faculties.
Almost half of those completing their university studies will live in a dormitory during their studies, while approximately 29% will live in rented accommodation and just over 24% will live at home.
According to the survey, 4 out of 5 students chose to study at a state college in Romania (approximately 79%) while 14% chose to attend a private college in the country. Almost 8% will attend college abroad (the most targeted countries being UK, The Netherlands, Spain, etc.).
