Talks between Patriarch Daniel and US Ambassador Hans Klemm. Religious freedom, essential
Prosperity and stability are promoted through respect for religious freedom, which is one of the fundamental human rights, said the US Ambassador to Romania, Hans Klemm, after a meeting on Wednesday with Patriarch Daniel, the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR), at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest.
The US envoy said that, from the point of view of the United States, freedom of religion is one of fundamental human rights, and that by respecting this fundamental human right both prosperity and stability in the world are promoted.
The US Ambassador also said that the meeting was fruitful and the two parties have agreed to promote the relationship between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Christian Churches in the United States.
On the other hand, Patriarch Daniel expressed, through his spokesperson, his joy for having a dialogue with the US Ambassador.
“The Patriarch has expressed his joy to continue the dialogue with a personality like that of Hans Klemm, a man who has expressed total openness to dialogue with the Romanian Patriarchate from the first minutes of the meeting. He scored three essential elements of his mission in Romania: first, promoting security and defence strategies of Romania, which have all the support from the United States, secondly the promotion and deepening of democracy in Romania by means of maturation of democratic institutions in Romania and, not least, promoting prosperity,” said the Romanian Patriarchate spokesman, Basil Banescu.
He noted that the dialogue insisted on a culture of prosperity that must develop in Romania.
Banescu stated that it was emphasized the need for the greater social involvement of BOR in the Romanian society.
