The aurora borealis visible again from Romania as well
The aurora borealis was visible last night in Romania in Sălaj county and in several areas of the country. Residents took photos showing how the phenomenon was present in different regions and posted them on social media.
Photos posted on the Facebook social network by several users who caught the phenomenon show how it was present in Romania. The Northern Lights were visible last night. Locals looked up at the sky in amazement for 40 minutes while the “spectacle” lasted.
The phenomenon was also seen near the city of Baia Mare and in Timiș county.
“The northern lights are produced by material coming from the Sun. The sun loses atomic nuclei, gases, electrons, which go everywhere in the solar system. Auroras are always produced, but they are of low intensity. But when an eruption occurs, more material leaves the Sun and, if it reaches the Earth, the auroras are more intense”, according to Adrian Şonka, an astronomer at the “Admiral Vasile Urseanu” Astronomical Observatory.
It is not the first time that the aurora borealis is visible in Romania as well. In May this year, Romania witnessed the aurora borealis due to a strong geomagnetic storm, sparking numerous remarkable images of the rare occurrence across social media platforms.
