Astarastoae was rector since 2008. He has justified his decision as a result of the High Court of Cassation and Justice ruling that declared him incompatible last year, Digi24 informs.
Hotnews.ro released on Thursday the information that DNA prosecutors have opened a criminal case against Astarastoae, because he continued to remain in office despite the High Court’s decision.
Hotnews.ro released on Thursday the information that DNA prosecutors have opened a criminal case against Astarastoae, because he continued to remain in office.
Vasile Astarastoae claims he was not aware of the file opened by the prosecutors. He explained that he wanted to resign since last year, after he turned 65, but dropped the idea after the Senate members had voted him for another term.
Interim Rector is Prof. Dragos Pieptu, vice-rector of UMF Iasi, while Vasile Astarastoae is to remain president of the College of Physicians in Romania.
The resignation comes in the context of public scandal triggered by the arrest of several professors, including Professor Dumitru Paduraru, accused of taking bribes for exams and sexual harassment of female students.
