The heatwave will continue over the weekend, when maximum temperatures will be between 33 and 37 Celsius degrees, say meteorologists, who issued a new yellow code warning on Friday. A code yellow warning for thunderstorms and torrential rain has also been issued from Friday until Sunday evening.
The heat wave alert will be in force on Saturday and Sunday.
According to meteorologists, in the west and south of the country the heat wave will intensify and especially on Saturday afternoon the thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures will generally be between 33C and 37C.
On Saturday, the thermal discomfort will be high, in places, and in the rest of the country. On Sunday, the heat wave will persist locally in Muntenia, Dobrogea and in the south of Moldova.
Torrential rains and storms
A code yellow warning for gales and torrential rain has also been issued, which will be in effect from 12:00 noon on Friday until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.
In the mentioned interval the weather will get unstable in the hills and mountains, locally in Transylvania, Banat and Oltenia, and in the night from Friday to Saturday (July 29/30) and in Moldova and northern Dobrogea. There will be torrential showers, thunderstorms, wind gusts and in places gales and hail.
Locally, water falls will exceed 25…30 l/m2 and isolated 40…50 l/m2. From the afternoon of Saturday (July 30), atmospheric instability will become especially pronounced, especially in the western half of the country, meteorologists say.
