The postmen have started a spontaneous strike on Thursday in several post offices in the country, following the failure of negotiations on Wednesday between the trade union members and the company’s management on wage increases. In a message sent Wednesday night to hotnews.ro, trade union leader Matei Bratianu announced that “the negotiations have failed. Leaders from more than 25 counties were informed by the trade unionists to stop work tomorrow.”
Romanian Post sources said on Thursday morning that several offices in Bucharest and in other cities a spontaneous strike has started. But not all postmen are on strike. For example, the post office on Matei Millo St. in Bucharest was open on Thursday, as verified by HotNews.ro.
In Cluj, tens of employees of the night shift at the Cluj Transit Centre spontaneously stopped work Wednesday night, dissatisfied with failing to obtain RON 200 wage increase. Cluj Post union leader Carol Sinka said on Thursday that other issues have led to protests, i.e. work conditions and the staff deficit.
