SRI can conduct tapping from 40 languages and dialects

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) has translators who can make conversions in 40 foreign languages and dialects, including the ones spoken in areas with terrorism and cross-border activities, sources within the service told Agerpres.

SRI has translators for Arab, Chinese or Farsi, with the philology universities’ leading graduates being targeted for recruitment.

The average age of the operators using the wiretapping equipment is 35 years old, with 60 pc of them being women. Operators cannot take the data from the system, neither delete or change them.

According to the above-mentioned sources, the Romanian Intelligence Service implemented the digital technique in 2000, with the system being purchased for some millions of dollars at the at time following a public sale where four companies had bidden. The software is made by a Romanian company.
