Teen mom from Vaslui passes her baccalaureate with 9.96
A high school pupil from Vaslui, who became mother last year, got a high grade at the baccalaureate exam, 9.96, thus ranking third in the entire county after other two colleagues who got ten.
Maria Elisa Pălimaru is living in the countryside, and she has been commuting all the high school years. She gave birth to a baby girl in December 2015.
However, despite being a teen mom, she didn’t give up school, on the contrary, with the help of her family, colleagues and teachers, she tried her best and graduated high school among the first and got an almost perfect score at the baccalaureate exam.
The young mother graduated social sciences at “Mihail Kogalniceanu” High School in Vaslui, one of the top high schools in the county. She has got 9.90 at the Romanian exam, 10 at history, 10 at geography. With an average grade of 9.96, Maria Elisa ranked second in high school and third in the county.
“The teenager gave birth in December, but she kept coming to school. She didn’t miss any class, was top of the form and took her baccalaureate exam with a high grade. She was also supported by her classmates, they did not marginalize her, on the contrary, they helped her. The changes in her life did not break her down, she managed to pull up her socks and eventually won. I congratulate her and wish her good luck,” said Catalin Ignat, director of the “Mihail Kogalniceanu” high school.
Maria takes care of her baby girl, with the support of the baby’s father, also a teenager like her, but also with the support of the baby’s grandparents.
Her dream is to become an archaeologist.
“I want to attend the History Faculty within the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi and to become an archaeologist. I intend to join the distance learning in the first academic year, as my baby is still small, she is only 7 months. But I will get transferred from the secondary year,” Maria said.
Vaslui county posted a graduation rate of 69.64%, with two pupils getting 10.
