The Bancorex tower in the Bucharest’s Old Town to be revamped
The Bancorex tower in the Olt Town of the Romanian Capital will receive a new face. Bucharest general mayor, Nicușor Dan, announced that he signed the building permit for the rehabilitation of the building and the change of the facade. And the building in front of the tower, which overlooks Calea Victoriei, will undergo changes, the part facing the CEC Palace being cut off to be set up as a public space.
“We issued the building permit for the building that housed Bancorex, located at Calea Victoriei, no. 15, the symbolic street of the city in the protected area. In the present case, a major urban planning error of the 90s is repaired as far as possible.Spatial, volumetric reconfiguration, building extension and exterior and landscaping works will be carried out, as well as redevelopment of the underground car park. The “Podium” will be remodeled to be able to arrange grassy terraces that will extend the public space towards the CEC building.Also, works will be carried out to improve the energy efficiency of the building, and with the partial removal of the floors, the visibility of the CEC building and the Victoria Store will improve”, announced the general mayor on the Facebook page.
The works have a duration of execution of 36 months from the date of commencement of the works (announced in advance). The term of validity of the authorization is 24 months from the date of issue, the period of time in which the authorized execution works must be started.
The Bancorex tower was built in 1994 and functioned as an office building, being considered one of the buildings that mutilated the city center.
