The Bucharester profile: rich, but downbeat, study says
Bucharesters are sad and downbeat despite they earn much more even than inhabitants of other European capitals, reveals the first Vital Signs Bucharest study.
Bucharesters have sometimes higher incomes than the inhabitants of Madrid or Berlin. Despite this, the survey says that the people living in the Romanian capital are not fully satisfied with their lives. Half of them are sad and downbeat.
“Bucharest is a little bit richer than we have imagined. If we look at the GDP reported to the purchase power, the Bucharest-Ilfov region is ranked better than the European average and better than other major regions in Europe,” said Alina Kasprovschi, executive director Fundația Comunitară.
Yet, the rich abd poor disparities are present.
According to Alina Kasprovschi, incomes in Bucharest are higher by 50 per cent than in the rest of the country and despite this, there are social disparities. The statistics show that rich people are contrasting with poor one, as there have been over 45,000 social aids reported in 2015.
Moreover, the study revealed that Bucharest is not such a safe city compared to Prague, Bratislava or Vilnius, but the thefts and robberies have declined in the past two years.
Thus, against this background that discloses a general picture that you earn well in Bucharest, but you live badly, sociologists concluded that the expensive, chaotic life in the Romanian capital also leads to depression.
„The life in Bucharest is expensive, chaotic and subject to hazard. It’s tough to live in Bucharest, less convenient than in other parts of Romania,” said sociologist Valentina Marinescu, as quoted by Digi24.
