The first Romanian city with an exclusively electric public transport

Turda is the first Romanian city that has exclusively electric public transport fleet. The city hall has introduced 20 electric buses bought with European funds.

Turda mayor, Cristian Matei announced a new public transport company had been also established, directly subordinated to the Local Council.

“The 20 electric buses have surveillance video cameras, GPS system, special ramps for disabled people, air conditioned, Wi-Fi and e-ticketing system”, the mayor added.

The cost of the 20 buses mounted o RON 50.1 million, meaning EUR 10.6 M.

Electronic cards for the buses will be introduced as of the upcoming year.

Turda is a city in Cluj county, central Romania, Transylvania region. The region’s main tourist attractions are Cheile Turzii/ Turzii Gorges and Turda Salt Mine.

Turzii Gorges house about 60 small caves. Only 20 of them exceed 20 meters, while the largest cave is 120 meters.
