The new chief of Caracal Police, Costel Gimiş, named following Nicolae Mirea’ dismissal over the Caracal case, failed the entry exam for this position in November 2017.

Costel Ghimiş obtained 5.80, while Mirea got 7.95. Ghimiş had been interim chief at the Caracal Police during July-December 2017.

Previously he had been chief of the public order office in Caracal.

The former Caracal police chief, chief commissioner Nicolae Mirea, was dismissed following the intervention in the Alexandra ‘s case.

Nicolae Mirea worked within the Caracal Police since 1990, and was named chief as of September 2017. Mirea used to say he has nothing to reproach to himself following the intervention.

The dismissed police chief of the Caracal Police, Nicolae Mirea, has asked for retirement last week, submitting the necessary papers to start the retirement procedure. USR deputy Claudiu Nasui claimed that Mirea’s pension will mount to RON 12,000 per month (about EUR 2,535).

The Interior Ministry’s report on the Caracal murders case yet pointed to numerous procedures breaches during intervention actions.
