Transfagarasan alpine road, several ports in Constanta closed down. Nowcasting alert for snowfalls and wind in the mountain areas
Even if the rains stopped in most part of the country, bad weather is still playing havoc in the mountains but also on the Black Sea coast.
Moreover, the National Meteorology Administration on Thursday issued a nowcasting yellow code alert for snowfalls and strong wind valid in the upcoming hours in the mountain area of several counties in Muntenia and Moldova.
There will be snowfall and blizzard in the mountain area of Neamt and Suceava counties at altitudes over 1,000 m high until 14:30, while wind will blow with 65-70 km per hour. Strong wind and snowfalls will also prevail in the mountain areas of Buzau, Prahova, Arges and Dambovita counties until 13:45.
The Transfagarasan alpine road is closed from Balea Lac and Balea Cascada on Thursday due to heavy snowfall. Road menders came to remove snow.
Traditionally, Transfagaras alpine road closes down in the last day of October and opens in the spring of the next year.
The Transfagarasan mountain road or national road 7C is one of the most spectacular roads in the world. It is 90 km (56 miles) long and is located in Romania. It runs trough the Fagaras mountains in Southern Carpathians, linking Muntenia and Transylvania region.
Forecasters say that heavy snowfalls have been reported at Balea, with the snow pack measuring 16 cm at 9 o’clock in the morning, when the temperature was -3 Celsius degrees.
Forecasters warned that temperatures would go on falling down in Sibiu and in the entire region. There will be a maximum of 10 Celsius degrees on Thursday compared to 18 Celsius degrees reported on October 13 last year.
On the other hand, strong wind was reported on the Black Sea coast. Constanta Nord, Agigea and Midia Ports were closed down on Thursday due to strong wind, Infotrafic center informed.
Both river and maritime traffic were closed down in Midia Port, Constanta county, while river traffic was closed down in Constanta Nord and Agigea. Maritime traffic is operational.
Mangalia Port is operation both for maritime and river traffic.
