Two generals, 95 military men to serve jail sentences for defrauding entrance examination

General Marian Ion and Mihai Chirita were sentenced to four years and two years in jail on Wednesday for defrauding some entrance examinations organized in units of the Defense Ministry. No less than 95 officers, non-commissioned officers and military supervisors were getting prison convictions in the same case.

The file related to several entrance examinations in the military units of Breaza and Pitesti during 2009-2010. The exams were targeting to enroll candidates to become professional military men or to join military educational institutions. The exams consisted of psychological and sport eliminatory tests.

For example, investigators show that 70 candidates were illegally admitted to the Pitesti military unit, in the injury of other 70 candidates who deserved to pass the examinations. The injured candidates were instituting legal actions, asking for RON 194,000 and EUR 52,000 compensations.
