Two Romanian climbers were the first ones to ever step on Himalaya’s “Peak 5”, also known as Saldim Peak (6,374m).

The Romanian alpinists’ expedition could be called a historical one, as they climbed without any help, without sherpas or supplies. Zsolt Torok (Arad) and Vlad Căpuşan (Cluj-Napoca) thus created a new route on an untouched peak in the Himalaya Massive.

The Romanian alpinists scored the success on November 1, after almost three weeks of acclimatization and training in the highest mountains of the planet.peak 5

The ascent occurred at temperatures of minus 30-Celsius degrees, with the Romanian alpinists having to surpass hundreds of metres of granite walls, technical passages and a labyrinth of glacier crevasses at heights where the oxygen level is at half than the sea level.

The Romanian climbers eventually reached the top, took photos with the tricolor and called their ascent route ‘Romanian Flame’. They are even conducting negotiations with the Nepali Government to officially re-name the “Peak 5”.

Peak 5 (Saldim Peak) is located in the Makalu area in Himalaya. The peak is isolated, technical and very wild.
