U.S. Army and Romanian Land Forces Strengthen NATO Allied Forces Coordination in Saber Guardian 25
The U.S. Army and Romanian Land Forces are supporting Saber Guardian 25, a series of exercises to rehearse NATO land component mission command and improve coordination among NATO Allied and partner forces. Saber Guardian 25 is part of DEFENDER 25, the largest annual exercise led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa. The exercise includes over 25,000 troops from 29 Allied and partner nations.
Saber Guardian 25 will demonstrate the U.S. Army’s capability to rapidly move personnel and equipment from the United States to Europe for large scale combat operations alongside Allies and partners.
The exercise is coordinated by U.S. Army V Corps, Hungarian Defense Forces, and Romanian Land Forces. Approximately 10,000 U.S., Allied, and partner forces from seven nations will participate in exercises June 9 to 24, 2025, at various locations in Czechia, Hungary, and Romania, reinforcing U.S. capabilities and readiness to defend its Allies.
U.S. Chargé d’affaires Michael Dickerson said, “Saber Guardian 25 bolsters the strong U.S.-Romania security relationship and showcases the U.S. Army’s logistical excellence. Our shared NATO responsibilities protect our citizens, defend our territory, and safeguard our freedom and democracy.”
In Romania, Saber Guardian 25 will include:
- U.S. Army 41st Field Artillery Brigade will conduct a combined artillery live fire shoot in Cincu with their Multiple Launch Rocket Systems alongside the 8th Romanian HIMARS Battalion and elements of the US Army 12th Combat Aviation Brigade.
- The recently activated U.S. Army 7th Engineer Brigade will provide 270 Soldiers to transport bridging equipment via the Danube River to Frecatei, Romania, where they will conduct a water crossing with the Romanian 4th Division.
- The 1-173rd Infantry Battalion from the Alabama National Guard will conduct a live fire training exercise with elements of the Romanian 81st Mechanized Brigade to exercise interoperability.
- Romanian Cyber Forces and the Maryland National Guard Cyber Forces will collaborate to provide defensive cyberspace overwatch for the 2nd Stryker Calvary Regiment’s tactical road march from Germany to Hungary.
- In April, ahead of DEFENDER25, the USAREUR-AF Band & Chorus conducted a series of dynamic music performances and community engagements across Romania, in Braila, Iasi and Vaslui counties.
