Unemployment rate down to 6.5 pc in Q3

Unemployment rate fell in Q3 to 6.5%, down by 0.2 percentage points against the previous period, while the employment rate of the working age population (15-64 years) was of 63.2%, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informed on Tuesday.
According to the statistics, during the same period, the employment rate of the population aged 20-64 years was of 67.8%, by 2.2 percentage points away from the national target of 70% set in the Europe 2020 Strategy.
The active population was in Q3 2015 of 9.37 million people, of which 8.757 million people were employed and 613,000 were unemployed.
Overall, the unemployment rate in Romania was in July-September of 6.5%, down against the previous quarter (6.7%). The unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 24 years reached the highest level of 19.9%. On the other hand, the employment rate of young people (15-24 years) was 26.7%.
The employment rate was higher for men (71.6% vs. 54.6% for women) and for the rural residents (64.1% vs. 62.5% in urban areas).
