8 out of 10 Romanians (78%) say they are greatly or very greatly concerned about events that affect their professional situation and income – according to the latest edition of the UNSAR–IRES Barometer on risk perception and insurance culture, conducted between April 30 and May 15, 2025.

Second on the list of people’s main concerns are events that affect their home and material possessions, including their car (77%). Surprisingly, events that impact life and health rank only third (73%).

When it comes to interest in the protection offered by insurance, the UNSAR–IRES Barometer shows a significant increase compared to last year in Romanians’ interest in home insurance (55% in 2025, up by 8 percentage points from 2024) and travel insurance (50% in 2025, 10 percentage points higher than in 2024). Health insurance has also seen an increase of four percentage points compared to 2024 (49% vs. 45%).

“The results of the UNSAR-IRES Barometer confirm that Romanians are becoming increasingly aware of the need for financial protection, even if we are more concerned about material goods than about our own lives and health. At the same time, the data also highlights how important it is to invest in proper information so that people move from simple concern to concrete financial protection. Currently, 54% of Romanians say they are well or very well informed about insurance, 3 percentage points more than last year – but there is still much to be done to bring insurance closer to the public,” said Alexandru CIUNCAN, President & CEO of UNSAR.

The study also reveals the main reasons that would encourage Romanians to take out an insurance policy: higher incomes (36%) come first, followed by better information about insurance (24%) and tax incentives offered by the state in the form of deductions (22%).

The UNSAR–IRES Barometer was conducted on a nationally representative sample of 1,008 individuals aged between 18 and 50, using the CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) method, with a margin of error of ±3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
