Update: Bad weather alert in force as of today countrywide, code yellow alerts issued for half of the country, Bucharest included

Update1 : The Romanian national weather administration has issued a code yellow alert for the Eastern half o the country, including Bucharest, valid as of today from 14:00hr to 23:00hr. Torrential rains, hail and storms are expected in most part of Moldavia, locally in Transylvania Dobruja and in the mountains.

The second code yellow warning is valid as of today at 23:00hr until Tuesday evening, the same hour, with 22 counties in the north and center being targeted: Transylvania, Maramures, most part of Moldavia and the northern half of Muntenia.

Update 2: Meteorologists have just issued a code orange alert for storms in Bacau county today, with torrential rains in store in certain localities. Falls will reach 35…40 liters/square meter, and there will be hailstorms, thunderstorms and strong wind.


Meteorologists had issued bad weather alerts in most regions of the country, valid as of today, May 5, through Wednesday, May 8. There will be heavy rainfalls, storms and the temperatures will considerably drop.

There will be torrential rains, thunderstorms, storms and hailstorms. Falls will exceed 15…25liters/sqm and sometimes even 40…60l/sqm.

Such phenomena will be more frequent on Sunday afternoon and on the night of Sunday to Monday in most regions, and they will mainly prevail in the south, east and center on Monday and Tuesday.

The temperatures will significantly drop on Monday in western and northern country, and in the rest of the areas on Tuesday. In the mountains, there will be mixed falls-rains and snowfalls on the night of Monday to Tuesday and it will snow on the mountain peaks, at over 1,800 m altitude, while the wind gusts will reach 60-70 kmph.

Special weather forecast for Bucharest

The weather will turn unstable as of today in Bucharest as well and it will start raining, with storms, thunderstorms and hail until Monday morning.

Falls will reach 15…25 liters/sqm and even over 30…35l/sqm.

The maximum temperature will mount to 21-23C on Sunday and Monday, and there will be 12-13C on Monday morning.

The weather will turn even colder as of Tuesday, so there will be only 10C on Tuesday morning, and 11-13C in the afternoon. There will be 6-7C on Wednesday morning.
