The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) has issued two weather warnings for rainfall and snowfall for the weekend. Most affected areas will be in south and south-eastern Romania. Bucharest also expected heavy rain.

The Code Yellow warning for rainfall, hail and snowfall comes in force on October 7, at 3.00h and ends on October 9, at 21.00h – in Oltenia, western Muntenia, southern Transylvania, central Moldavia. Water quantities will exceed 25 litres per square metre up to 40-50 litres per square metre. Wind gusts at 50-60 km/h. In mountainous regions hail and snowfall are expected with wind gusts of 70 km/h.

The Code Orange alert comes into force on Saturday at 9.00h until Sunday 15.00h for the counties of Giurgiu, Călăraşi, Ialomiţa, Brăila, Buzău, Prahova, Ilfov and Bucharest, Constanţa, Tulcea, Galaţi and Vrancea, with rainfall up to 60 litres per square metre.

In Dobrogea wind will reach 80-90 km/h.

Temperatures are expected to be lower than 10-12 degrees Celsius during daytime and lower in the mountains and in northern regions.

In Southern Carpathians and Curvature Carpathians, at altitudes above 1,500 metres, heavy snowfall is expected as well as a consistent snow layer.

Motorists are advised to equip their cars with winter tyres.
