Update: Man dies in Bucharest due to the storm. 6 cars destroyed, 15 fallen trees. Code Yellow alert for storm withdrawn

Bucharest Inspectorate of Emergency Situations received 24 requests following the storm on Wednesday night. One man died after being hit by a tree. 15 trees fell down, with six destroying cars. Several areas in the city have been flooded.

A 42-year-old man died on Wednesday night after a tree fell on him. The accident occurred on Soseaua Viilor in the Capital.

A tree fallen down on Thursday in Bucharest’s district 3, damaging three cars. The incident occurred on Buhusi Alley. Fortunately, there are no victims.

In Ilfov county near Bucharest, eight floods were reported, a tree fell down and a roof was damaged.

However, the situation was more serious in other counties, in central, western and southern country.

Hail destroyed several cars in Teleorman and Gorj, where large pieces of hail laid down on the streets. Over 3,000 people had no energy due to torrential rains in Arges county, while in Prahova and Dambovita several households and roads were flooded.

In some villages in Cluj, the wind have put down the roofs, while in Posada in Prahova a car with two people has got stuck in the water.

Schools in Prahova remained closed for the pupils who have classes in the morning, at the parents’ request. In Timis, four schools are closed.

Overall, more than 4,000 firefighters have intervened in 38 localities from 15 counties and Bucharest in the past 24 hours, to remove the storm’s effects. Over 20 house roofs and nine cars have been damaged. The 15 counties affected by the storm are: Alba, Argeş, Cluj, Dâmboviţa, Giurgiu, Gorj, Hunedoara, Iaşi, Ilfov, Mehedinţi, Prahova, Satu Mare, Sălaj, Vaslui and Vâlcea.

Five houses and 23 courtyards have been flooded countrywide. Firemen have acted to remove 15 trees, a phone pole and a billboard.

Meanwhile, the National Meteorology Administration (ANM) has withdrawn the Code Yellow warning for storm that had been issued for almost the entire country until Thursday evening. Instead, weather forecasters announced a note for chilly weather is enforced, valid until Friday at 8 p.m.

ANM says that there will rain particularly in Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Transylvania and Moldavia, but only in few areas. The wind will blow with 45-55 km/h in the south and in the mountains. There will be maximum 14-18C in the mountains.

At the same time, ANM has issued a code yellow warning for strong wind in Constanta and Tulcea counties, in force on Thursday by 14:00h.
